Lungz – Acrylic on canvas – 2013

To put it simply, I have dodgy lungs. They have collapsed 4 times in the last 4 years, and I have been in hospital so many times I have lost count. In my third year of University I was in hospital so much that I got a rail pass to take me to my weekly appointments. I had loads of scans etc, and they found ‘blebs’ on my lungs which was causing them to collapse.
Fast forward to May 2015, I had surgery on my left lung. Most painful experience of my life. The painkillers were an interesting experience though.
This painting is a representation of my anxiety around my lung problems. The sinking feeling I get when I feel that little ‘pop’ in my chest and feel my lung whirling about.
