Broke – Acrylic on canvas, 2011.

I painted this after seeing an exhibition in Bristol in 2011. It was my first piece of art in a long time, and it was kind of the start of an awakening I had when I realised how powerful art can be and how much it actually meant to me as a person.
This was when I first started using art as a form of self-expression. (I was pretty much insane in 2011/12).
The shapes inside the frame represent conformity – perfectly lined and neat. It’s kept inside a frame, but part of it can’t be contained and is escaping from the expected form.
